Shri Jibon Kanai Poddar was born on the 17th Day of August in the year 1930, the holy day of Janmashtami, the birth day of Lord Sri Krishna.
He lost his beloved father at the age of 4 years. His elder brother was then a boy of 8 years. His mother was the only sister of 7 brothers. His widow mother went to her father's place in Faridpur (at present in Bangladesh) with her children. Little Jibon Kanai was brought up in his maternal house. He passed school final in Bangladesh and there after came to Kolkata in the year 1951 during partition of India and Bangladesh.
He completed his graduation from Surendranath College of Kolkata.
While pursuing his graduation there was an outbreak of Pox virus in Kolkata and he was engaged in the work of inoculating Pox vaccine through injection under the directives of Government authorities at the Secretariat, the Writer's Building.
He did many odd part time jobs, one of which was to supply lamps from Bengal Lamp factory in Jadavpur and from Asia Lamp factory to the retail outlets at Ezra Street.
He also used to supply hair combs, hair oil (Jobakusum Hair Oil), Aalta (Mahawar - the red dye) and vermilion (Sindoor) to different retail outlets of stationary items.
At 24 years of age he got married to a 18 year old lady Smt. Mina Poddar in the year 1954.
He joined L. R. ARTHUR LYON & CO in the year 1961 as an Accountant.
He got employed in Bharat Carbon & Ribbon Ltd. (BCR) at Taratala, Kolkata, as the chief Accountant in the year 1965 by encashing the experience he gathered from L. R. Arthur Lyon & Co. At the same time he was engaged in a part time job in BIMAL HOMOEO HALL PVT LTD. with his friend Late Kali Krishna Das as Accountant.
Jibon Kanai and Mina are parents of four sons. They gave birth to their first child Goutam in the year 1956. Their second child Uttam was born in the year 1959 followed by the third child Bijoy in 1962 and fourth child Ajoy in 1963.
His elder brother expired on 29.11.1969 at the age 48 years and left his wife, three sons & four daughters. The family of his elder brother was maintained full heartedly & with overall responsibility by the extremely kind hearted Jibon Kanai. His mother left for her heavenly abode on 15.09.1984 at the age of 85 Years.
Late Subodh Mazumdar, owner of BIMAL HOMOEO HALL PVT LTD. decided to leave the premises of his business due to requirement of larger space.
Late Shri Mazumdar offered & encouraged young Jibon Kanai to purchase the same premises and run his own business. Shri Jibon Kanai Poddar left his job & started his journey as an entrepreneur by the establishment of S. M. HOMOEO LABORATORY in 1968 in the premises where BIMAL HOMOEO HALL, used to exist. Heavy financial constraints forced him to run the business in partnership with Mr. Hari Mohan Saha, one of his close relatives, as a sleeping partner at Sealdah, Kolkata.
Later on in 1975 he established MODERN BOOK CENTRE at 309, B. B. Ganguly Street, Kolkata dealing with office registers and various Govt. / private stationeries. This firm soon became a trusted place for procurement of printed stationeries.
The ‘MODERN HOMOEO’ group had its inception long back through the foresight of the present Managing Director Mr. Jibon Kanai Poddar in the ‘Year 1987’ in the form of a 'Retail Outlet' namely “MODERN HOMOEO CENTRE” at the 1st Floor of 309, B.B.Ganguly Street, Kolkata-700012. From the very beginning the Group had the motto of earning faith and goodwill from the suffering humanity by providing the best quality Homoeopathic Medicines at affordable prices.
The relentless job that started in the ‘Year 1987’ went on to reach another milestone in the ‘Year 1990’ by the opening of a ‘Wholesale Outlet’ namely “MODERN HOMOEO ENTERPRISE” in another floor of the same premises. Wholesale in small and moderate quantity started at this juncture.
With best wishes from every person related to the organisation, the business went on increasing and to fulfil the increased requirement there came up another outlet namely “MODERN HOMOEO DISTRIBUTORS Pvt. Ltd.” in the ‘Year 1996’, to serve the raised wholesale demand from all parts of the country in another floor of the same premises. Thus Dealer Network of the organisation started to form gradually with full support from the Group.
As the time proceeds the Group that has already earned fame and reputation in the field of Homoeopathic Medicines gets bestowed with the responsibility to stretch out their helping hand to more and more people around. In the process demand of more space and manpower developed. To accomplish the same now came up another organisation at 290 B.B.Ganguly Street, Kolkata – 700012, in the name of “MODERN HOMOEO HALL” in the ‘Year 2000’ which is a transformation of “MODERN HOMOEO ENTERPRISE” and thus the later seized to exist.
Transformation in the business continued to touch another milestone in the ‘Year 2005’ when the eastern part of the country received one of the largest retail and wholesale outlet of about 5000’ sft at the ground floor of 294 B.B. Ganguly Street, Kolkata – 700012, in the name of “MODERN HOMOEO WORLD”. The “MODERN HOMOEO DISTRIBUTORS Pvt. Ltd.” got shifted to this premise.
Business went on increasing in leaps and bounds with best wishes from each and every part of the nation. The quantity and quality of persons and institutions who needs support of the ‘MODERN GROUP’ went on increasing even further. Hence as the opportunity arrived the GROUP under the valuable guidance of Mr. Jibon Kanai Poddar and with profound support and hard work of the Directors namely, Mr.Goutam Poddar, Mr.Uttam Poddar, Mr.Bijoy Poddar and Mr.Ajoy Poddar and nevertheless by the blessing of the Almighty, acquired a space of about 15000’ square feet at the 1st. Floor of 294 B.B. Ganguly Street, Kolkata – 700012, to shift “MODERN HOMOEO DISTRIBUTERS Pvt. Ltd.” in a widened form and to develop their personal warehouse. The ground floor of the same premises of 5000’ square feet acquired in the ‘Year2005’ stared functioning as a sole retail outlet in a much larger variation.
The GROUP continues to sail the ship with the vision “and miles to go before I sleep”.
